Following the successful launch of the governance project and a series of previous virtual inception meetings with African union member States and Regional economic communities, the African union development agency-Nepad in collaboration with the United Nations economic commission for Africa organizes a virtual inception on meeting in Burundi on March 18, 2025, 9H00am-12h00noon (UTS+2). This is precised in a concept not addressed to participants in this workshop. Please get zoom link to participate.
This meeting will provide an opportunity to engage with Burundian officials and stakeholders to better understand Burundi’s digital ecosystem and priorities, enabling the design of a tailored technical assistance solution to facilitate the implementation of the African Union Data Policy Framework thought an inclusive and multi-stakeholder approach.
The primary objective of this meeting is to thoroughly understand Burundi’s data governance landscape and collaboratively develop a plan to enhance it thourgh technical assistance and capacity building.
Expected outcomes are a comprehensive understanding of Burundi’s data governance landscape; identification of specific policy development and capacity building needs; commitment from stakeholders to support the implementation of the AU Data Policy Framework. Note that key activities which will be conducted in collaboration with partners are: assessment of current data ecosystem; identification of challenges and opportunities; collaborative strategy specification formulation and action planning and roadmap development.
The president and Legal Representative of the Burundian center of expertise in ICT, Nathan Ntahondi, says he is very satisfied with this step for Burundi. For him, this is a critical moment that should not only mark the history of telecommunications in Burundi but a beginning of work for the mastery of the Burundian digital ecosystem to promote the digital economy in vogue today throughout the world.
